About Me

B0000488.jpg

I have a Bachelor of Applied Social Science Degree in Counselling, and I am a Level 3 Member of the Australian Counselling Association. I hold a current Australian Working with Children Blue Card.  My private practice is at Victoria Point and  I have over 20 years experience in my field. I have had great success working at my home studio located at Victoria Point CBD. Here I support Individuals, Couples (including Married Couples, Pre-married Couples, Same Sex Couples Married and in Civil Unions), Pre-Teens and Teens and Families to overcome obstacles that impede their happiness. My greatest satisfaction is to see my clients succeed and to move forward into a more positive future.

I have grown up in a blended family and have raised one, so I do understand the ups and downs of life as both a parent and a child. I have the ability to understand what is happening in families through my training and my lived experience.

What I have learned is that quality time with your partner and children is a valuable investment. I get what it is like to be a mother/parent and have a family to juggle through the stresses of life. I have written some of 'my mothering story' as a chapter in a joint project called 'Mother's Making a Difference' which was released in May 2021.

Individuals

We all experience challenges or stresses which can affect our happiness.  Sometimes we need someone to talk to about issues that are current or from the past.. I will support you with anxiety, grief, trauma and depressive phases, by guiding you towards a healing pathway, Together, we may develop your strengths and build your resilience.  I work 'heart to heart' in a person-centered environment. I will offer an opportunity for you to experience deeper therapy, such as, 'Focusing' which works on the body/mind connection. Our bodies store every memory and experience.  Sometimes, what triggers 'us' is from the past, and we re-live these challenges.  I would always discuss with you these processes beforehand. You are the expert of your life, and you know what you need. I am your guide and support.

Couples

All relationships go through their ups and downs. As a counsellor I have the training and skills to help support you and your partner to work together to inject something new into the partnership and to find true happiness.

Youth

Our young people are our future and there are more life challenges today than we experienced as young people. When our youth need help, they need a skilled professional with knowledge and family experience.

Grief

Grief is normal, and an event we will all have to come to terms with at different stages of our lives. Grief may be the loss of a job, a relationship, a marriage, losing a home, a pet, or the passing of a loved one.  We might not be able to imagine our lives without them. Dying is part of living, yet it can affect us in different ways.  It can have an impact on how we function and might become a burden too great to bear.  For instance, I endured the sudden loss of my first husband. So, I do have some understanding of how difficult this time might be for you. I had out-of-control feelings and emotions that were sometimes confusing, and I felt different. I discovered that grief counselling was a valuable resource for me to unpack my feelings.  I offer grief counselling, as I wish to support others to find their spark again.  Kubler Ross explains the Five Stages of Grief as Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, and Acceptance.  These stages can be experienced intermittently and are not linear. Feelings of loneliness, worthlessness, despair, hopelessness, and helplessness are feelings that can be felt through the emotion of anger. Acting out with anger might become an issue for you, and if functioning normally day to day, is an effort, this might develop into complex grief.  Children often struggle to express their emotions and grieve differently from adults. For instance, my daughter was a toddler when her father passed.  My being honest helped her to process the loss. Sometimes it is helpful just to have someone to talk to.  Please let me know if you or a loved one requires my support.

Partnered with Tony Hollands Funerals.

Families

Family relationships can be complex. When you need help you want to be sure you're seeing someone with the right skills and experience. I combine professional training with my own lived experience to provide you and your family with the support you need.
